There are many ways in which you can make money with WordPress. Creating a website for the purposes of promoting a business or selling goods through an online store is one such way. Monetizing a blog with display ads is another. While there are other ways in which you can use your WordPress site to make money, perhaps one of the easiest ones to get started with is affiliate marketing.
Their policies are strict. Be sure to read through Amazon’s affiliate program policies very carefully. Any violation of their policies is grounds for account suspension--something which could be devastating if you build an entire website or store around affiliate links. Amazon has also been known to suspend accounts without any prior notice, so tread carefully.
Get back to class! This is something we never liked to hear in high school, but when it comes to building a business online, it is always nice to have current, live and interactive training you can take part in. Every Friday there is a live class that you can take part in as a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate. Here are a few of the recent ones.
I realize my bias is already showing through, so I’ll get to what I DON’T like about Wealthy Affiliate below. But, as I’ve already stated, overall I don’t know of any other place that is better for new affiliate marketers to get started than Wealthy Affiliate. If you take a look around my site, you’ll notice I’ve spent a TON of time on it. I’ve spent years of my life building this site, and there are currently almost 500 posts here, all for free, for everyone. It is in my best interest to promote only the best training course and that training course is Wealthy Affiliate.
Building trust with your audience is paramount in affiliate marketing, and the quickest way to lose trust is to recommend products either you haven’t used before or that aren’t a good fit for your audience. Also make sure you never tell anyone to directly buy a product, you are simply recommending the product. The more helpful you are and the more you make quality recommendations, the more likely your web visitors will come back for your expertise.
The fact of the matter is, if you put forth the effort and apply what is taught to you in the training (and follow the 4 steps to success methodology), you are going to come out on top. Sure, it will take some hard work. Anything worth working for takes, WORK…and owning your own, successful long term business should be one of those goals that you have.
In my experience, it’s product-related blogs that tend to do best with Amazon. Most blogs probably have at least some possibilities (for example here on ProBlogger I occasionally link to a book that relates or a computer or electronic tool that I think might be useful to bloggers) but the reality is that this blog will never convert as well on Amazon as my photography site.
I joined WA and it was really helpful in the beginning because I was new to Affiliate Marketing. I haven’t given up on affiliate marketing, and I am currently learning how to piece together my own resources that seem more up to date. This has given me piece of mind and I feel this will provide more stability. I do see a lot of people promoting WA by comparing them to other similar programs. Craig’s review is very refreshing and spot on. Thank you Craig.
Basically, anyone who is looking to make money fast should stay away from Wealthy Affiliate. There are plenty of “make money fast” e-books and courses out there, and they are all a scam (trust me). While Wealthy Affiliate is legit, they will absolutely never claim that they teach you how to make money fast. Building a legitimate online business takes time.
Suppose you’re running a gadget blog and you’re delighted with your new Kindle Fire. So you write a post describing the new features and how you find it even more useful than your old Kindle. In the course of your post you add a text link to the product page on Amazon.com. You might mention that other users love it too, judging from the overwhelmingly positive user reviews, and maybe mention something about the range of Kindle Fire accessories that are available.

The concept of affiliate marketing on the Internet was conceived of, put into practice and patented by William J. Tobin, the founder of PC Flowers & Gifts. Launched on the Prodigy Network in 1989, PC Flowers & Gifts remained on the service until 1996. By 1993, PC Flowers & Gifts generated sales in excess of $6 million per year on the Prodigy service. In 1998, PC Flowers and Gifts developed the business model of paying a commission on sales to the Prodigy Network.
As Target is the second-largest general retailer in the United States, their affiliate program is primarily for American bloggers or publishers who can route visitors to relevant products. Overall, the program works much like Amazon’s does in that publishers (bloggers) get a small commission on sales, but Target’s gigantic product base (over one million items) and high brand recognition make their affiliate program a great option for influencers.

As for where I made the pyramid scheme analysis, it may be stretching it a bit far, but Investopedia says it well, “If the recruit gets 10 more people to invest, he or she will make a profit with just a small investment.” Sound a lot like getting a person to join Wealthy Affiliate, though I’d be fine if it was just a product and nothing else. Sure it may offer all of those resources like keyword research and hosting, but that’s just the bread of a hamburger, meaning the true “meat” of the program is the fact that it teaches you how to build an online “business” in which you are an affiliate for certain products. May even be a bit like MLM, but instead of the participants who recently joined receiving a smaller percentage of the money in which they got others to join (WA gives half, I’ll recognize that), they will still struggle in the end trying to build a website and generate traffics to have products bought through them in such a saturated market. Such reality cannot be downplayed in a review for Wealthy Affiliate.
I have a free WordPress website with 1000-2000 visitors/month. I was trying to place Amazon Affiliate ad links last night and failed/flailed mightily. I would paste the links into my posts in the HTML mode, switch to Visual mode, and could see the image. However, every time I tried to save or update the post, the image reverted to the gangly hyperlink. As some suggested, I tried cleaning the links of any formatting from the copy and paste with text edit. No dice.
I didn’t realize there was a limit until a few years back when I hit the maximum. I wish Amazon would increase it! To be honest, I find their tracking system pretty messy and think it needs an overhaul however, it is great for testing what works and what doesn’t. Most of what I’ve written about in other tips in these articles was learned through tracking.
Your WA review is by far the best one I’ve seen and it helped me to decide not to re new either so Thanks! One thing that drove me nuts was that any time I would enter my site dot com I could never reach my site from ANY device ( cell phone or computer) and would simply see an error message. Yet if I clicked on the link to my site from WA’s control panel I’d reach the site. This use to drive me crazy! I had no plug ins on my site yet and my upline the aforementioned One more cup of Coffee dude said he had no clue and suggested typing /wp-login.php after dot com to see if that would work. I asked why in the world would I have to add /wp-login.php or expect anybody else to do that when going to my site?
I have a couple lessons to finish with the bootcamp, and what I’m thinking about doing if I even think about continuing to blog is create a site not around WA but to help others figure out how to make money online, wordpress, how to create a website, select a hosting platform like Hostgator which I had previous experience with before WA, clickfunnels and so forth. But yeah, it’s been real, and an eye opening experience. I’ll likely be transferring my domains back to Hostgator here.
Set reasonable expectations for earnings. You've only invested $20. You're going to make 5 percent on most products. That means that you need to sell $400 worth of stuff to make back your investment. You get credit for purchases customers make while at Amazon besides just the product you linked to, so it's not as hard as it may sound. It won't make you rich, but it's not hard to be profitable, and the income builds over time.
Now I imagine there are some highly motivated and disciplined individuals who could utilize the membership training and community resource to build a profitable businesses; however… The main sales page is a bit misleading in that I feel it grossly oversimplifies the process of establishing a profitable site, and it nowhere near emphasizes just how much work will be involved. Not to mention, the several months you will have to devote to this before you start seeing any sort of income.
SkimLinks works very similarly to VigLinks in that it is designed for bloggers who don’t want to do a lot of hands-on work to participate in an affiliate program. SkimLinks also works much like VigLinks in that it uses a plugin or script to create dynamic links in your content to send visitors to higher paying offers from merchants. SkimLinks claims to work with over 24,000 merchants/advertisers.
The 1.4 million members figure doesn’t even make any sense. If WA had 1.4 million active users it would be totally unusable. The “classrooms” there would just be far too busy to keep track of. And aren’t all members automatically set to follow Kyle? According to his WA profile, he has 365,319 friends. So there are 1,034,681 members that don’t follow Kyle?
If you add up all the services you get, the premium membership is a steal. For example, you’ll notice they include unlimited keyword research with a membership. Other paid keyword research tools sell for $49 or more just by themselves. Add in website hosting, and there’s another $10 / mo. Add on the website security package, and there’s another $10 per month (I’ve paid as much as $29 / mo just for website security). Just based on those things alone, Wealthy Affiliate is a great deal with all of the resources and tools you need in one convenient place. Not to mention all of the training, tutorials, and support that is included with the membership.
You get to hand-pick what you promote. Unlike display ad systems that typically choose which brands serve ads on your WordPress site, you have total control over this with Amazon affiliate links. You’ll never have to worry about a competitor’s link showing up on your site and the link will always be relevant to the content that it appears within or beside--which will improve its chances of getting clicked.
I achieved this because I’m an old hand, yet still my web pages and posts weren’t on the first page of Google. No problem with Bing and Yahoo, though. But Google, however, is where we need to be on page 1 of the SERPs under targeted keywords to get anywhere. WA teaches us to target ‘low hanging fruit’ keywords. In other words, to be bottom feeders. Talk about scraping the barrel!
It sounds like you are a very savvy internet marketer Craig so now I have real suspicions as to why you with all your experience could only get one referral. I have to wonder what Carson is doing working with 25 Information Techies on a daily basis are they stealing their customers referrals? I am aware that IT professionals know how to create backlinks etc and my next question is what else do they do with peoples sites that have been left because their premier memberships were not updated.
You have of the most current 12 theme designs as a Starter member as well, not 5. You have full control of the content on your website, they are fully function WordPress websites, on state of the art hosting. And can promote what you like and build it within any niche. If your website is “inactive” for 6 months, it is removed from the hosting at Wealthy Affiliate simply because that would make sense. To free up room for others that are taking their business seriously.
VigLink works a bit differently than other affiliate programs in that it is specifically designed for bloggers. Instead of affiliates picking and choosing which merchants to work with, VigLink uses dynamic links that automatically change to work with merchants that VigLink has determined are offering the highest conversation rates and/or commissions at any given moment.
The thought of WA had been circulating around my mind this week, and wanted to drop in and share as how really difficult it’s been to write this week. After writing over 200,000 words in almost a year(more than 100% of members), I’ll have to discontinue my efforts in creating new conten. It doesn’t make sense for me to write write write-as they say and continue to be held back by little traffic and so much work for little monetization; there’s a sense in helping people, but to see little to nothing in monettization, am I wrong for thinking that? Further on, in relation to promoting WA, which Rattled through my mind about minutes ago, it’s very off center to have people in the make money online niche put a blog for example about how to setup a wordpress website, and then at the end tell them how WA helped them out and to sign up here. And here are the reasons…
I recognize that the list above is short; however, that’s because Amazon affiliate marketing really doesn’t require a specialized theme in order for it to work well (unless it’s one of the unique cases noted in the themes above). Instead, you’re better off using WooCommerce if you want to build a full affiliate store or simply stick to the WordPress theme you currently have and add affiliate plugins to the mix.
Cost per action/sale methods require that referred visitors do more than visit the advertiser's website before the affiliate receives a commission. The advertiser must convert that visitor first. It is in the best interest of the affiliate to send the most closely targeted traffic to the advertiser as possible to increase the chance of a conversion. The risk and loss are shared between the affiliate and the advertiser.
Those are certainly ways in which you can get traffic to your website. Within the training at Wealthy Affiliate you are going to learn a broad range of traffic techniques, from SEO (which is the core training) where you are going to learn how to get search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to love your websites. This includes getting rankings in Youtube/Vimeo if you are vlogger.
Also known as a publisher, the affiliate can be either an individual or a company that markets the seller’s product in an appealing way to potential consumers. In other words, the affiliate promotes the product to persuade consumers that it is valuable or beneficial to them and convince them to purchase the product. If the consumer does end up buying the product, the affiliate receives a portion of the revenue made.
